Daphne

Based on the opera by Jacopo Peri, Daphne is a stop-motion puppet animation in two acts.

In the first act Apollo is confronted with his son Phaeto. Phaeto wants to drive the golden carriage to prove he is a semi-god, but Apollo says no. Phaeto then steals the golden carriage but unable control it he burns the earth, when Zeus hear about this he kills Phaeto with a lightning bolt. Apollo then is in despair after his sons death.

In the second act Apollo set out on a journey through the desert his son Phaeto created, in the desert he meets the god of love Eros, Apollo is delusional from grief and makes fun of Eros. Later Apollo meets the young nymph Daphne together with a group of bedouins, Eros then shoots Apollo with an arrow wich makes Apollo fall in love with Daphne but he also shoots Daphne with an arrow wich makes her hate Apollo. Apollo chases Daphne finally she cries for help then the river-god Peneus turns her into a laurel.

Together with the animation is a little book with 12 drawings and texts which works as program for the film.
